In Canada, a landlord can give notice to increase the rent only after the initial one-year lease term.
They must provide the tenant with at least 90 days’ written notice before the new rent takes effect.
If the tenant and landlord do not agree on the new rent, the tenant has the option to vacate the property at the end of the lease.
In that case, the tenant must give the landlord 60 days’ notice of their intention to move out.
